St. John’s Oktoberfest began on Friday, September 27 and ran through Saturday, September 28. In true Oktoberfest tradition, the festivities kicked off with live entertainment and the 3rd Annual Oktoberfest 5K Run/Walk. The 5K saw another increase in registrations this year, up to 121 from 90 last year.
“The increase also brought the attendees family and friends who took part in the Oktoberfest festivities,” said 5K organizer Lance Skinner. “The atmosphere really kept people there throughout the night. Live music and great food were keeping the large crowd having a wonderful time.”
After running the 5K and dancing to the sounds of The Funsters, festival goers enjoyed a variety of food. The ever-popular Oktoberfest international food court served their traditional German entrees, as well as Italian, Spanish and Polish dishes. For the adults, the very popular Beer Booth returned with local and international libations.
On Saturday, the festivities began with arts and crafts booths, fire truck rides, free carnival style games for children including face painting and a petting zoo. Entertainment throughout the day included the McAleer School of Irish Dancing, the German Enzian and St. John’s Spanish Dancers. Live entertainment by Joe Kroboth, Glass Onion Band and DJ Lucky keep the crowds dancing.
“I hope people learned St. John’s is a staple in this community and by enjoying themselves at Oktoberfest they supported our church more than they’ll ever know,” said Pletcher. “We’re grateful for the community’s support.”
