Santa will Celebrate Small Business Saturday

By Trish Gerken, DMI Executive Director

Downtown Milford, Inc, the City of Milford, and local businesses invite you to celebrate small businesses with the 10th Annual ‘Small Business Saturday’ on Saturday, November 30th beginning at 11 am in Milford’s Historic Downtown. Small Business Saturday will highlight downtown businesses, restaurants, and the local arts community.

Small Business Saturday is the kick-off to the Holiday Season and will begin with Santa’s arrival at 11:00am. Santa will be coming to town on a vintage fire truck courtesy of Carlisle Fire Company arriving to his Milford home The Santa House on N. Walnut Street. He will be escorted by Mayor Campbell on motorcycle! This will kick of the opening of Santa House which will be open Friday’s from 5-8pm, Saturday and Sunday’s 11-3, and Monday, December 23rd from 5-8pm. The Shop Small event will end with the Annual Tree Lighting at 5pm at City Hall.

Small Business Saturday is a nationwide annual event sponsored by American Express. Since its inception in 2010, Small Business Saturday has been able to increase support for small businesses everywhere, bringing in an estimated $17.8 billion in 2018. AmEx found that, on average, 67 cents per dollar spent at small businesses stay in their local community. As shopping small catches on in communities everywhere, Small Business Saturday goes from cause to a day of community celebration.

There are a lot of ways to participate in the event this year. First State Dance Academy will be offering a free drop-in hip hop dance class for children ages 6 and up, giving parents the opportunity to go shopping at one of our many small businesses. Irish Rose will have Irish dancers performing outside from 12-3pm. Many of the stores will be offering fun games, prizes, and discounts. Make sure you stop by each store to check out their specials!

Downtown Milford, Incorporated (DMI), is a dynamic multi-faceted economic development organization that serves as positive force in the community at large. We work with business and property owners to beautify, revitalize, protect, preserve, and promote our historic riverside district. DMI operated as a 501c3 nonprofit organization and is accredited through the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Downtown Delaware Program.
