Festival of Trees Supports DE Hospice

On Friday, December 13, Rose Colored Lasses will hold an Open House Reception for the Delaware Hospice Festival of Trees at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. The open house will take place from 6:30 to 9 PM.

“In the past, Rose Colored Lasses has held a Holiday House Tour,” Peggy Dolby, Assistant Director of Development and Community Outreach at Delaware Hospice, said. “This year, they decided to do something a little different to help raise funds for our organization.”

A ticket to the Holiday Open House Reception includes complimentary beer, wine, punch and gourmet hor d’oeuvres. Guests will be able to stroll through a wonderland of beautiful trees and wreaths while listening to delightful music. In addition, Rose Colored Lasses will be selling chances to win their infamous raffle basket.

Last year, Rose Colored Lasses raised $3,373 for Delaware Hospice at their 10th Annual Christmas House Tour, allowing those who purchased tickets to visit beautifully decorated homes throughout the Milford area. Delaware Hospice used the funds to purchase four new loveseats for patient rooms.

The Rose Colored Glasses formed when a group of friends who were exercising at Curves, a fitness center designed for women, who created a Relay for Life Team. Eventually, the group became one of the top fundraisers for Relay for Life. When they discovered that a large portion of what they raised was sent outside of the Milford area, they decided to begin raising money for their own causes.

Over the years, the women have raised money for air conditioners at the Home of the Brave and provided funds to the KenCrest Group Home in Dover. The past several years they have focused on supporting Delaware Hospice.

The Festival of Trees is an annual event designed to kick off the holiday season. The Festival features displays of decorated trees and wreaths which are viewed by thousands each year. Individuals, business and organizations sponsor the trees which are decorated by artisans who donate their time and talent. Sponsors may also choose to decorate the tree or wreath on their own.

Sponsorships are still available and prices range from $150 for a wreath to $750 for a Remembrance Tree Sponsor. In addition, sponsors are able to designate a non-profit for the tree to be donated to after the festival ends or they may allow Delaware Hospice to choose the recipient. They can also ask to have the tree or wreath returned to them. Monetary donations are also accepted.

Tickets for the Open House Reception are $25 per person and can be purchased at Delaware Hospice, Blooming Boutique or online at www.delawarehospice.org/event/festival-of-trees-milford/. Sponsorship forms are also available at the website. For more information, call 302-422-8540 or 302-424-0395.
