Harrington NAPA Store Under New Ownership

by Terry Rogers

Tim Millman, who purchased the Milford NAPA store on December 2, 2019, announced that, effective November 1, 2020, he and his associates would be the new owner of the Harrington NAPA location. Millman explained that he felt the move made sense to combine the two stores under the same ownership.

“The Harrington store was corporate-owned,” Millman said. “Corporate doesn’t really like owning their own store and they approached me about taking over the Harrington location. It made total sense to me to do it. The Harrington store has a great bunch of people working there so I knew it would work out great.”

Millman stated that he intends to keep all the employees at both the Milford and Harrington location. He feels the clientele in Harrington will be very similar to that of Milford.

“Actually, we have some people who use both stores, so this might make things easier for them,” Millman said. “I also think this will give us more of a western reach. We offer the exact same services at both locations. In fact, we feel this will help us because it doubles our inventory. It seems as if when one store doesn’t have something, the other one does.”

The National Automotive Parts Association, now commonly known as NAPA, was founded as General Parts Company in 1928. The Harrington location was one of just over 1,100 that were owned by Genuine Parts Company, subsidiary of NAPA. The rest of their more than 6,000 auto parts stores are independently owned. The company was founded by Carlyle Fraser when he purchased a store in Atlanta At the time, the store had just six employees but Fraser instituted a policy of swift, reliable service. In 1925, Fraser cofounded NAPA, a trade association which set standards for auto parts.

Within 10 years, Genuine Auto Parts grew their assets from $40,000 to $3.18 million. By its 20th anniversary in 1948, the company had more than $20 million in sales. In 1966, the first NAPA brand parts were introduced. Over the years, Genuine Auto Parts acquired many different auto parts companies who belonged to NAPA, expanding into Canada, Asia and Europe. In 2012, Genuine Auto Parts became the last member of NAPA and all stores were rebranded as NAPA auto parts.

Millman explained that both stores will continue to follow all COVID-19 protocols, requiring all customers and staff to wear masks, providing hand sanitizers and minimizing how many customers are admitted to the store. Social distancing inside the store is also required.

The Harrington NAPA store is located at 17468 South Dupont Highway, Harrington. Store hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM until 6 PM, Saturday from 8 AM until 4 PM and Sunday 10 AM until 3 PM. Customers can call the store at 302-398-3422.
