Wednesday is Veterans Day, and Delawareans will commemorate the holiday with events Wednesday and later.
The holiday was originally known as Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Here’s a roundup of events, by location:
American Legion Nanticoke Post 6, 230 Front St., Seaford; noon-3 p.m. Wednesday. Open house includes legion family organizations.
Delaware Memorial Bridge’s Veterans Memorial Park, 163 Cherry Lane, New Castle; 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Speeches, music, a moment of silence, taps and an honor volley. The park is one of 68 sites nationwide designative as an official site by the National Veterans Day Committee. Event has been sponsored for decades by the Delaware Commission on Veterans Affairs and the Delaware River and Bay Authority.
Kent County Veterans Memorial Park, South Little Creek Road, Dover; 2 p.m. Saturday. Kent County chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America will place wreaths and read the names of veterans lost in recent wars in this ceremony, postponed by the forecast for poor weather on Wednesday. With Eagle Cadet Squadron from the Civil Air Patrol, and the Dover Fire Department’s Pipes & Drums, the State News reported.
