UPDATE as of 12/4/20: All Winter Sports at Milford Parks and Recreation will not begin until December 14. Registration will continue through December 13.
Registration is now open for the 2020-21 Milford Parks and Recreation Winter Sports programs. According to Nan Martino, Coordinator, the organization was waiting to get more definitive guidelines from the state amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are encouraging people to register online,” Martino said. “However, for anyone who wants to register that cannot do so online, we have placed information sheets and registration forms outside our office that they can complete. When they have them ready, they can bring them back and place them in our drop box also located outside.”
Basketball leagues are available for children under 10, under 12 and under 15 starting in December with games starting in January. Children under eight may register for Instructional Basketball that will begin in January. The cost is $50 and all sessions held at the Milford Boys and Girls Club.
Introduction to Taekwondo will also be offered this winter. Participants will learn basic blocks and strikes as well as basic self-defense and awareness skills.
“Students are also shown positive ways to empower themselves and become more confident individuals,” Marino said. “The program begins in January at the Milford Parks and Recreation building. The cost is $50, and participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing.”
Youth Indoor Soccer begins January 10, 2021. In order to play in the 5-Year-Old League, children must be born in 2015. For the 6 & 7-Year-Old League, children must be born in either 2013 or 2014. Children born in 2011 or 2012 are eligible for the 8 & 9-Year-Old League while those born in 2009 or 2010 are eligible for the 10 & 11 Year Old League.
“All players must wear shin guards and may not wear jewelry,” Marino said. “All players that have metal braces must wear a mouth guard. Sessions take place in the Milford Boys and Girls Club gymnasium and the cost is $50. For all winter sports, COVID-19 guidelines will be strictly enforced. This includes face coverings and there may be limits on spectators at games or practices. Hand washing stations will be available as well.”
