
The Smyrna Eagles won the Henlopen-North conference title for the 5th time in the last six years with a decisive 44-15 victory over Caesar Rodney at Charles V. Williams stadium.
Eagles quarterback Aiden Sanchez completed all 12 of his first half passes for 318 yards and four touchdowns. He finished the game with 462 passing yards, giving him an astounding amount of 2, 058 for the season. That’s an average of 343 yards per game.
His four touchdown passes went to four different receivers: An 80-yard pass in stride to Devin Smith, an 86-yard connection to Yamir Knight, and 34-yard connections to Wayne Knight and then Devin Demoe.
The only starting wide receiver who didn’t get into the end zone was Jermaine Earl, but he made several fantastic catches (nine receptions for 96 yards) to keep Smyrna drives alive.
Wayne Knight and Dominic Galban both gained 50 yards rushing and each scored a touchdown. Knight scored twice in the game, and added two conversion runs to bring his season point total to 96 for the year.
Caesar Rodney finished its best regular season in years at 5-2. The Riders were led by fullback Brock Connors’ 135-yard rushing performance including a 79-yard touchdown. The other Rider score came on a 33-yard pass from Tremere Woodlin to Nathan Waite.
