Vaccinations are already taking place in hospitals and nursing homes, the first a nurse Tuesday at Bayhealth Kent County. On Thursday, staff members at three Genesis long-term care facilities were going to start being vaccinated. The residents themselves will begin being vaccinated the week of Dec. 28 under a federal program that empowers pharmacies to give the shots.

The state now is using the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine, but Delaware officials expect that Moderna’s vaccine will receive the same federal approval and start arriving next week.
