Community Rallies Around Injured Officer

Senior Corporal Timothy “TJ” Webb and his dog, Henk

Law enforcement agencies formed a pathway as Senior Corporal Timothy “TJ” Webb was discharged from Christiana Hospital on Thursday, December 17. S/Cpl. Webb is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds suffered as he and the US Marshal’s Office attempted to arrest  Evelio Rivera, 37, a fugitive from Reading, Pennsylvania fugitive on December 10. Rivera was shot during the exchange of gunfire and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The community has rallied behind the injured officer who was discharged to a rehabilitation center and is improving although he still faces a long recovery period. An account has been set up through the Delaware State Police Federal Credit Union and there are three ways to support the fund. Anyone who wishes to make a donation can visit the Georgetown location of the credit union at 700 North Bedford Street, Georgetown, DE 19947 and ask to make a donation to S/Cpl. Webb’s newly established account. Checks can also be mailed to that address as well, but please include a note that it is for the benefit of the S/Cpl. Webb. Anyone with an account at the credit union can make an internal transfer into the account.

“You can also drop the donation at the Milford Police Department,” Lieutenant Ed Huey said. “I have a team of three volunteers at the station to audit all donations to ensure every single penny that comes in goes back out to the credit union.”

In addition to cash donations accepted at the Milford Police Department and Delaware State Police Federal Credit Union, Benvenuto Restaurant in Milford is donating 50 percent of their profits on December 29 and 30 to S/Cpl. Webb, including both their lunch and dinner service. Take My Hand Ministries is selling raffle tickets to win a seafood feast for 20 people.

“The feast includes steamed crabs, steamed shrimp, steamed little neck clams, fried chicken, potato salad, corn on the cob and pretzel salad,” Lisa Johnson, owner of Benvenuto and a volunteer for Take My Hand Ministries, said. “It will also include a Delaware State Fair award-winning ice cream as well as beverages of your choice. The drawing will be on Valentine’s Day and you do not need to be present to win. The person with the winning ticket will meet with Benvenuto to choose a date for their seafood feast.”

Reservations are required at Benvenuto on January 29 and 30 and can be made by calling 302-265-2652. Gift cards will not be accepted on those two days.
