MILFORD, Del. — Downtown Milford will come alive this Friday, July 4, for a special Independence Day edition of First Friday, featuring Downtown Milford Inc.’s first-ever Picnic in the Park with live music, food trucks, yard games, and local shopping. The event is hosted entirely in Bicentennial Park, a riverside green space that offers the perfect setting for this festive summer gathering.
Organized by Downtown Milford, Inc. (DMI)—a nonprofit dedicated to revitalizing and promoting the city’s historic downtown—the First Friday series is known for creating a vibrant community atmosphere through events that support local businesses and bring residents together.
“This year, the Fourth of July and First Friday land on the same day—and that makes this celebration extra special,” said Sade Truiett, Coordinator for Downtown Milford, Inc. “It’s the perfect chance for families, neighbors, and visitors to come together downtown and celebrate our community and our country all at once.”
DMI is especially excited to launch its new Picnic in the Park concept during this month’s First Friday. “We will have vendors, food trucks, yard games and more starting at 5 PM,” Truitt said. “We have DJ Dave spinning tunes starting at 5 PM, and at 7 PM, The Funsters take the stage. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, kick back and enjoy some music and dancing in the park until 9 PM.”
The Funsters, a fan-favorite party band from Sussex County, will headline the event with a high-energy performance blending rock, Motown, soul, and pop classics. Known for their dynamic live shows and multi-instrument lineup, they’re sure to get the crowd moving.
Although there will not be fireworks at this year’s event, Truitt noted that DMI hopes to incorporate them into future celebrations.
