Barratt’s Chapel will again present its Summer Worship Series. The series will be held Thursday nights at 7pm and feature a variety of pastors, churches and organizations who will create different worship experiences and preaching.
Beginning June 13th Camp Pecometh will start us off as they bring together campers and staff, past and present, in a service reminiscent of the camping experience. Rev. Megan Shitama-Weston, Ordained Deacon and Pecometh Program Director, will bring us the preaching word.
Camp Pecometh began in 1946 when a group of Methodist clergy and laypersons saw the need for a Christian camp. They purchased 10 acres along Bookers Wharf north of Centreville, Maryland. The name was the result of a contest entry and combines the first syllables of the owner, Peninsula Conferences of Methodists. Camp Pecometh partners with more than 400 churches of the Peninsula Delaware Conference of the United Methodist Church to serve persons of all ages and walks of like.
The series continues on June 20 when Rev. Dale Brown, the Senior Pastor at Community United Methodist Church in Berlin, Maryland will lead the worship. Rev. Brown has served a number of different churches in the Peninsula Delaware Conference over his career. He is father to Rev. Zachary Brown and grandfather to Avery.
Rev. Amy Yarnall is currently serving Wesley UMC in Dover, DE and will lead the series on June 27. She has served in our conference since 1997 and is passionate about spiritual formation, mission and justice. She’s married to Ray Yarnall and is the mom of Shannon and Jacob, both students at the University of Delaware.
There will be no service on July 4 in honor of the Independence Day holiday, but the series resumes July 11 when Rev. Casey Houtz, who serves Ewell-St. Paul in Clayton Delaware, takes the pulpit. He is in his 6th year of pastoral ministry after a career in broadcast. He is happily married to his wife Dodie and is the father of two amazing young women.
July 18 will feature Rev. Wendy Owens Butterworth who serves Millville UMC in Millville Delaware. She resides with her husband Michael, two sweet kitties and one diva cat.
The July 25th session will be lead by Rev. Tom Pasmore is the incoming Delaware District Superintendent. He has served in a number of appointments in Delaware and on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, including Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford and is excited to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ again this summer.
All denominations are welcome to attend the series at the chapel located at 6362 Bay Rd, Frederica, Delaware. For more information, contact 302-335-5544 or email [email protected].
