DOVER — Bayhealth will offer students and community members a hands-on look at the future of medical technology during two interactive events on Monday, October 20. The health system is bringing Intuitive’s TOME Truck, an 18-wheel, 80,000-pound mobile classroom, to the Blue Hen Corporate Center in Dover.
The TOME Truck features demonstrations of the Ion robotic bronchoscopy platform and the Da Vinci surgical robot, two technologies used in advanced, minimally invasive procedures.

Two Events Scheduled for October 20
-
Student Sessions (10 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.): Local high school students will attend scheduled sessions inside the TOME Truck to explore careers in medicine and technology through interactive experiences.
-
Community Event (5:30 – 7 p.m.): Donors, clinicians, Bayhealth team members, and community partners are invited to tour the truck, learn about the robotics platforms, and speak with Bayhealth physicians and Foundation leaders. Catered refreshments will be provided.
Focus on Innovation in Cancer Care
The event coincides with the introduction of the Ion by Intuitive® robotic-assisted bronchoscopy system at Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus. The technology allows physicians to diagnose lung cancer at earlier stages by navigating to small, hard-to-reach lung nodules.
Bayhealth also uses the Da Vinci surgical robot at both its Kent and Sussex campuses to perform a variety of complex procedures using minimally invasive techniques.
According to the health system, these programs reflect Bayhealth’s ongoing efforts to improve cancer diagnosis and treatment outcomes through the use of advanced medical technology.

Members of the media are invited to attend and will have opportunities for interviews, photos, and video during both the student and community sessions.
