Bayhealth leaders shared updates on system growth and upcoming campus enhancements during a recent presentation to the Milford Chamber of Commerce.
Kyle E. Benoit, MHA, FACHE, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Bayhealth, provided an overview of expansion efforts at both the Sussex and Kent campuses, highlighting investments made since Bayhealth Hospital, Sussex Campus opened in 2019.
Located on a 250-acre site near Milford, the Sussex Campus has grown to 157 beds. The hospital added 24 acute care beds in 2020 and five labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum beds in 2023.
Benoit also pointed to the hospital’s recognition by The Leapfrog Group in 2020, when it was named a Top Hospital — one of 105 nationwide and the only hospital in Delaware to receive the distinction that year.

Recent and upcoming developments at the Sussex Campus include the Bayhealth Ann L. Burton Center for Children, an on-site child care facility designed to serve up to 102 children. The center includes age-specific classrooms, indoor and outdoor play areas and a lactation room, with capacity for future expansion.
Additional updates included the opening of a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital operated by Post Acute Medical in October 2024. Plans are also underway for a four-story medical office building expected to open in 2027, as well as a proposed interventional suite intended to support minimally invasive procedures across multiple specialties.
Benoit also discussed long-term planning at Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus, including proposed emergency department reconfiguration and phased vertical expansion projects aimed at improving patient flow and expanding surgical services over the coming decade.
Bayhealth continues to invest in infrastructure and services as the health system grows to meet demand across central and southern Delaware.
