The 2023 Big Draw Festival – Drawing with Senses – is taking place on Park Ave. and N. Walnut Street in downtown Milford on Saturday, October 7, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. This free, family-friendly art event is a way for the community to gather and engage our senses – touch, sight, sound, taste and smell – to create art.

The Festival is being supported by many Milford civic and nonprofit organizations, making it a real community event. The Milford Public Library, Milford Museum, Music School of Delaware and Second Street Players/First State Improv have each created art activities for the public to enjoy.

The Big Draw Opening Ceremony starts at 10am with Milford Mayor Archie Campbell as Master of Ceremonies, joined by speakers State Representative Bryan Shupe and Milford Chief of Police Cecilia Ashe. There will be sandcastle building, ink blot art, mosaics, pumpkin painting, making edible art, blind portrait drawing, creating buttons, stamp art, drawing with chalk on the sidewalks and more, each activity designed for your enjoyment.

The Festival was first organized in the UK 22 years ago and is now the world’s biggest celebration of drawing. It promotes the universal language of drawing as a tool to learn, express, and invent. Activities are for anyone looking to have a fun art-making experience.

MAL also offers art classes in many different mediums for ages 9 and up. Class details and registration can be found on the website www.mispillionarts.org, on Facebook and Instagram (@MispillionArts), and on www.delawarescene.com. Visit Milford’s Downtown and wander through our Gift Shop, filled with local, handmade artwork. Located at 5 N. Walnut Street, hours are Tuesday-Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

MAL welcomes everyone who loves art and believes in its power to enrich all members of the community. Our mission is to provide community-wide access to a quality visual arts program. Join MAL and support it financially to make an investment in the community.
