Volunteers prepare meals that will be delivered to first responders on Thursday

For the sixth year in a row, a group of volunteers came together to help feed every first responder who must work on Thanksgiving Day in Sussex and Kent Counties in Delaware. Blessings for Badges relies on donations from local restaurants and grocery stores as well as Ladies Auxiliaries from local fire companies.

In Sussex County, volunteers gathered Wednesday night at the Millsboro Fire Company at 6 pm to prepare the meal, and again at 9 am on Thursday morning to plate meals before delivering them to police stations, fire companies, rescue personnel and prisons.

In Kent County, volunteers gathered Wednesday night at 5:30 pm at the Leipsic Volunteer Fire Company and 9:30 am on Thursday.

Every box contained handmade thank you notes from children in the county. It also contained individual hot meals featuring Mountaire chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, macaroni and cheese, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, rolls/muffins, and pies for dessert.
