MILFORD — Matt Bucher, a familiar figure in local political and education circles, has officially filed to run as the Republican candidate for Delaware’s 33rd District House seat. The district includes southern Kent County communities such as northern Milford, Frederica, Houston, Bowers, and Magnolia.
Bucher currently serves as vice president of the Milford School Board and Legislative Chair for the Delaware School Boards Association. He is also the founder of the Buccaneer Educational Foundation and previously served three terms as chair of the 33rd District Republican Committee.
His announcement comes one day after longtime State Representative Charles Postles told members of the 33rd District GOP Committee that he will retire at the end of his term. Bucher congratulated Postles during the meeting, saying, “Charlie & I have fought many battles side-by-side, and won a lot of elections together. Rep. Postles is one of those men we don’t hear about enough these days. He has been ironclad in his support for our values, and has served and will continue to serve as an example for me of a true public servant, and a good and decent man. He cannot be replaced, only succeeded.”

He highlighted his years of community involvement and said his campaign will focus on representing the district’s interests in Dover.
“The reason I am running is I believe we need representation in the 33rd District from someone who knows how to fight, knows how to win, and believes, as I think most of you do, that we need to speak our values clearly and protect our area’s interests when faced with a state government that doesn’t always seem to have us in mind,” Bucher said. “I also think, at this point in time, I am that person.”
Bucher said he plans to spend the coming months discussing issues affecting the district and the state.
“In the weeks and months to come, we will be having a conversation about where we are headed as a state, what we need to change, and who is most qualified to take your message to Dover,” he said. “I’ll be working hard over the next year to earn your vote.”
Bucher can currently be reached at bucherx@aol.com or (302) 462-1962. His campaign website, votebucher.com, is expected to launch after the start of the new year.
