Bug and Bud Festival will return April 29

Milford’s popular downtown event, the Bug and Bud Festival, is planned for April 29, According to Janne Collins, Executive Director of Downtown Milford, Inc., who puts on the festival, this year promises to be as exciting as it has been in the past.

“Of course, we will have food and craft vendors,” Collins said. “This year, we are also offering a preview of our popular Farmer’s Market at the festival. We will kick off the day with the fun costume parade. We are asking people to dress as ladybugs, butterflies, flowers or trees. Of course, you are encouraged to bring your pet in costume as well. We will have prizes for different categories.”

Although DMI is still finalizing the entertainment schedule, Flatland Drive, a bluegrass band, will be the headliner for the festival. Milford High School’s Interact Club and National Honor Society will be helping with children’s games throughout the event while Watergun Fun will be bringing their train and other carnival games.

“We have a wide variety of food vendors this year as well,” Collins said. “We will have everything from burgers to hot dogs to barbecue. There will be international foods as well, including Asian, Indian and Mediterranean. Kona Ice will be here, there will be a truck offering fried Oreos plus cotton candy and popcorn.”

One new event added to the lineup this year is a pizza eating contest. Contestants must sign up at the DMI booth before noon and the contest will be held at the booth at 2 PM. Collins is also hoping to add a funnel eating cake contest, but has not confirmed that yet. The pizza eating contest is sponsored by La Ortellana.

“We really want to thank the sponsors that make this event possible,” Collins said. “Bayhealth, the Rotary Club, Milford High School and Milford School District, Yarn and Bone plus so many more. We could not do what we do without their support.”
