Herd leaves behind a legacy of humor, generosity and heartfelt connection.

MILFORD – Friends, co-workers and customers across Milford and Houston are mourning the loss of William Brenton “Brent” Herd, a friendly face known to many through local Dairy Queen locations and Big Fish Grill restaurants. Herd, 39, of Houston, Delaware, passed away peacefully at his home on Dec. 6, 2025.

Born Sept. 12, 1986, in Milford, Herd was the son of Tamara Gallagher Herd and William “Bill” Herd. Those who knew him say he had a rare gift for making people feel at ease.

Whether behind a counter, stopping by a table or greeting someone in passing, Herd was known for his humor, warmth and easy conversation. Many in the community knew him simply as “Brent from Dairy Queen,” the guy who remembered your order, shared a joke and made a quick stop for ice cream or a meal feel like a visit with a friend.

He was also a familiar presence at restaurants owned by the Big Fish Grill Restaurant Group, where his friendliness and charm made an impression on co-workers and customers alike. For many families, seeing Brent became part of their regular routine.

Beyond work, Herd cherished simple, everyday moments with the people he loved. Family and friends say he had a way of showing up when someone needed a listening ear, a good laugh or a bit of encouragement. He made others feel seen, valued and understood, and that quiet, steady kindness is what those closest to him say they will miss most.

Herd leaves behind a legacy of humor, generosity and heartfelt connection. His time was far too short, but the love he shared and the memories he created will live on in the lives of those who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Herd was preceded in death by his grandparents, Barbara and Donald F. Gallagher, Andy and Lenora Herd, and an uncle, James Herd.

He is survived by his siblings, Bradley and Ashley Herd, Erica and Keith Bauer, and Colby Herd; six nieces and nephews, Alexis Herd, Alexander Bauer, Adelaide Bauer, Addison Bauer, Anderson Bauer and Ashton Bauer; his grandmother, Sara Gallagher; three aunts, Joyce Herd, with whom he lived, Jane Herd and Susan Case, and their families; as well as numerous cousins and extended family.
