Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) will be going back in time to the 1980s during their 2023 Lights of Life Going Back to the 80s Gala planned for Saturday, March 4 at Bally’s Dover Casino and Resort from 5 to 9 PM. The gala returns after a two year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This year, DBCC’s Lights of Life Gala has special meaning for our organization as well as those we serve. The pandemic did not allow us to hold this survivorship celebration for the past two years,” Francesca Vogel, CEO, said. “As we emerge from that dark period in our history, our ability to bring back DBCC’s much anticipated signature annual fundraiser serves as a relevant metaphor for our survivors. With DBCC’s help, survivors are also emerging from the initial darkness of a breast cancer diagnosis, to empower themselves with health and wellness education, resources, and connection to a support network through participation in our programs and services. The Lights of Life Gala serves as a symbol of great hope, mind over matter, and as a celebration of life for our survivors and their loved ones in their fight against breast cancer.”
The gala will offer guests the opportunity to party “All Night Long,” to “Dance with Somebody” and to rock those fun 80s looks. Music will be provided by DJ Sky Brady and there will be live as well as silent auction items, including exclusive trip and entertainment packages. Enjoy rad hors d’oeuvres and delish food stations along with a bodacious open bar. This year, the signature Survivor Showcase will feature local breast cancer survivors in 80s-inspired attire, escorted by local medical professionals and business leaders.
“Funds raised through the Lights of Life Gala support DBCCs programming and services for survivorship programming throughout the state, delivered at little or no cost at all,” Vogel said. “We hope that through your attendance, sponsorship or donation, you will be able to help DBCC continue this valuable and much needed programming for those how need us most in support of our life-saving mission.”
The Light’s of Life gala promises to be a “rockin” celebration of living and is only made possible with community support. DBCC is seeking auction items for the event from local businesses. Donations to the auctions help generate thousands of dollars for DBCC’s survivorship support and education programs. The event’s live and silent auctions feature a range of unique items, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, sports memorabilia, salon and spa services, jewelry, home furnishings, golf outings, beach getaways, international trips, and gift cards that will promote your organization and bring customers to your door.
“You may also honor the life of a breast cancer survivor through the purchase of a tribute of celebration or memorial to their legacy,” Vogel said. “The tributes will be displayed at the event, and you can share your tribute with a personalized note.”
This gala is not possible without the generous support of the community and that support will allow DBCC to continue to deliver community programs of survivorship, support, outreach education, transportation and interpretation services to its friends, family and neighbors who are battling breast cancer.
“As a girl who grew up jammin’ to 80’s music on cassette in my handed-down Chevy Impala, I am truly excited that we’ll be able to relive a little of our glory days while supporting a terrific cause,” Vogel said. “I’m also very excited about the great silent and live auction prizes and trips featured this year. Let’s celebrate survivorship and honor those who are no longer with us because of this disease. Not only can you join the fight against breast cancer in Delaware, but you can also have a lot of fun doing it decked out in your most tubular 80s outfit.”
