Delaware Safety Council, the nation’s first state safety council founded in 1919, is excited to announce its new position as State Coordinators for Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI). OLI is a national non-profit organization, active in 47 states and the District of Columbia: with the mission of preventing collisions, injuries, and fatalities on and around railroad tracks through public education programs nationwide.

“OLI welcomes our newest state coordinator Stacey Inglis, Executive Director of Delaware Safety Council and applauds the council’s commitment to making their communities safer,” said?OLI Executive Director Rachel Maleh. “State Coordinators manage rail safety outreach and education throughout their states – and are an integral part of helping to #STOPTrack Tragedies.”

As a newly appointed state coordinator, Inglis plays a crucial role in facilitating the implementation of OLI’s programs and initiatives at a state level. Additionally, her objective is to develop strategies that address specific challenges and needs within Delaware’s railway system.

Delaware Safety Council aims to cover a broad variety of safety throughout Delaware. The inclusion of OLI allows for an emphasis on train safety as well as pedestrian safety. The incidence of trespassing on train tracks, in recent years, has been at an all-time high. With this, the Delaware Safety Council is excited to share the rail safety message throughout the state.

Delaware has an extensive railway network, with freight trains traveling throughout the state, SEPTA Regional, and Amtrak providing high-speed transportation for passengers. Unfortunately, many incidents occur on and around tracks due to a lack of awareness and knowledge about the importance of making safe choices near tracks and trains. Through the partnership with OLI, Delaware Safety Council aims to protect Delawareans statewide through education and awareness regarding rail safety.

Delaware Safety Council encourages individuals, organizations, and concerned citizens in the state of Delaware to actively participate in OLI’s programs aimed at promoting rail safety. Together, we can work towards saving lives, and enabling responsible practices around our railways.
