Over 57 percent say they did so in order to keep money local while 38 percent did so to support the community. Over 45 percent show choose to shop locally in the store are over the age of 45 although millennials also prefer to shop local. In addition, about 20 percent of small businesses also offer an online shopping option.

Other statistics indicate that shopping small keeps more money in the local area. According to researchers, between $50 and $70 of every $100 spent in a locally-owned store remains in the community where that $100 is spent. This helps boost the local economy while also supporting a small business.
