Bring your four-legged family members to downtown Milford for the Dog Days of Summer

Third Thursday will have downtown Milford “going to the dogs” as Downtown Milford Inc. celebrates the “Dog Days of Summer.” The entire downtown area will have vendors and displays related to four-legged family members.

“Canine Assisting Service Heroes (CASH) will be here,” Miranda Collins, Events Coordinator for DMI, said. “They are a nonprofit from VVA Chapter 850 and train dogs and pair them with veterans. They are sponsored by Tax Chicks. The Milford K9 unit will be here and Fur Baby Pet Resort will have information about pet adoptions. We will also have a petting zoo and face painting.”

Blue Hen Concessions will offer funnel cake, French fries and pink lemonade while Carl Habor will have hot dogs. Tracian’s Eatery will offer their Jamaican and Caribbean food options while Pop Warner will offer some “kids’ fare,” including hot dogs and nuggets. Heavenly Taste Catering will return with their fried fish and French fries as well.

“We have partnered with Fur Baby this month,” Collins said. “They have generously offered to partner with us this month and they are putting on a scavenger hunt, raffle, pet adoptions and a game table.”

Milford Museum will also be present in the downtown, offering bone treats to the four-legged family as well as free ladybug ribbons to tie on a dog (or cat) collar. They will also have doggie bandanas available for a donation as well as other gift shop items. Be sure to offer your dogs water from the many bowls that will be available throughout downtown.

CASH procures, trains and provides, at no charge, service dogs to veterans of the Armed Forces who are in need. It is a unique program in Delaware who offer the animals to qualified PTSD/TBI veterans and is managed on a volunteer basis. There are no paid employees, allowing 100 percent of all money raised to go directly to the program. In addition to providing the service member with a lifetime companion, CASH sets up a care plan with a veterinarian.

Third Thursday is held on the third Thursday of each month from 4:30 to 8:00 PM with Walnut Street blocked off from vehicle traffic. Anyone interested in being a vendor should contact DMI by calling 302-839-1180.
