First Friday returns to downtown Milford with music, vendors and health resources

The June 5 event will bring families, food trucks, line dancing and community services to Main Street.

MILFORD — Downtown Milford will launch its first First Friday of the year June 5 with a Main Street celebration designed to bring families, small businesses, local vendors and community organizations together for an evening downtown.

The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. along Main Street and Walnut Street in downtown Milford. The monthly series, hosted by Downtown Milford Inc., is scheduled to continue on the first Friday of each month through October, according to event listings.

This month’s kickoff will include live music from DJ Dave, line dancing, food trucks, local vendors, small businesses, family activities and special appearances. Organizers say the goal is to create a relaxed, walkable event that encourages residents and visitors to spend time downtown while supporting Milford businesses.

Health and wellness also will be part of the evening. Highmark Health Options will provide a Wellness Station with community resources for the public, and AmeriHealth will offer health services through its mobile health bus.

The event is intended to connect residents with local artists, restaurants, vendors and downtown businesses while giving families another reason to spend time in the city’s commercial core.

First Friday events have become a familiar way for downtown districts to turn a regular evening into a community gathering, giving shops and restaurants more foot traffic while giving vendors and nonprofits a chance to meet the public directly. Downtown Milford Inc. describes the event as a free street festival and dance party beginning in June.

Streets will be closed throughout downtown Milford during the event, allowing visitors to walk safely between activities, vendors and businesses. Parking will be free for those attending.

The June 5 event will mark the beginning of the season for First Friday in Milford, with additional events expected through the fall. Central Delaware Tourism lists upcoming First Friday dates for July 3, Aug. 7, Sept. 4 and Oct. 2.
