In summer 2023, Harbor Freight will occupy this building

In September 2022, Harbor Freight announced that it planned to open a new location in the former Peebles building, located at 642 North Dupont Boulevard. At the time, the company could not release finalized plans for the location, but now say that renovations are underway with a plan to open the new store in early summer 2023.

“This will be our second store in Kent County and our fifth location in Delaware,” Craig Hoffman, Director of Communications, said. “We’re excited about this new location because it will be much more convenient for our customers in the Milford community. Currently, they have to travel about 16 miles to our Dover store or about 20 miles to Seaford.”

According to Hoffman, Harbor Freight has been searching for a second location in Kent County, specifically in Milford, for a while. He stated that it is Harbor Freight’s practice to wait until they find a location that meets the needs of their customers. They look for good visibility, each access, ample parking and the right square footage.

“This particular location, in the Milford Plaza, will be 15,473 square feet which is smaller than the so-called “Big Box” stores in our category and which we feel is a competitive advantage,” Hoffman said. “Many of our customers are professional trades workers who want to stop in, find what they need and then head out quickly to their job site or workshop. For other customers, this size makes it easier to browse and find our great deals.”

Hoffman stated that all customers would find a full selection of quality tools and accessories in categories that range from automotive, air and power tools, storage, outdoor power equipment, generators plus many other items at low prices, a mission Harbor Freight began 45 years ago.

“We also chose to open in Milford because we feel there is a wide pool of qualified applicants to join our team,” Hoffman said. “We hire locally, and in addition to the construction workers we’ll be hiring, we’ll be bringing an additional new 25-30 jobs to the Milford community. We consider ourselves to be one of the best places to work in the retail industry, with highly competitive pay, great benefits and the opportunity to advance in one of the fastest growing companies in retail. We’ve been recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the top 20 Best Employers in Retail for two years in a row and one of the top Employer for Veterans for three years in a row as well. They’ve also recognized us as one of the Best Employers for Women and for Diversity, an honor we’ve also received from Diversityjobs.com for two years as well.”

Hoffman explained that anyone interested in applying for a position with Harbor Freight could do so at www.harborfreightjobs.com/retail where they should search for “Milford, DE.”
