Brightway Commons will be the site of a holiday celebration on Saturday, December 21

At a recent Milford City Council meeting, Councilwoman Katrina Wilson announced a holiday celebration at Brightway Commons on Saturday, December 21 from 11 AM until 2 PM. The celebration is open to the public.

“This is a way to give back to individuals who have done well, grew up in Brightway Commons, or Banneker Heights as it used to be known, and have come back to Milford and want to give something back,” Wilson said. “There will be free food provided by White and Associates as well as other treats.”

Wilson explained that the main goal was to give back to the community. In addition to the celebration, Wilson stated that she was going to be collecting socks at the event.

“I have been picking up my granddaughter at Banneker and sometimes I am sitting there for a good 45 minutes or so,” Wilson said. “I am just sitting there watching and I see these little people running around without socks and it is just bothering me. So, I need socks, you guys, all sizes.”

Wilson stated that she knew the principal and was willing to coordinate the sock giveaway with her, but it was weighing on her how many children had no socks.

“We all have a designated bureau drawer with socks,” Wilson said. “Too many of these little people do not have that drawer. If we get enough that we can spread it to other schools, we can do that because it is not just Banneker.”

In addition to the free food and sock collection, Downtown Milford Inc. has donated t-shirts that will be given away at the event. For more information, contact Pedro White at 302-883-1986
