During the Spring Manufacturing & Policy Conference in Dover, Delaware State Chamber of Commerce (DSCC) and its affiliate, the Delaware Manufacturing Association (DMA), named Hologic’s 3Dimensions Mammography System as the first Coolest Thing Made in Delaware.

This inaugural contest served to highlight Delaware’s vibrant and diverse manufacturing industry—which employs 28,000 Delawareans—and promote the sector as a top career path. Structured in a bracket format, the competition featured over 50 products from 40 companies across the First State. The competition was narrowed down through public online voting, starting with the Top 16, then the Top 8, and finally the Top 4. Throughout the competition, nearly 20,000 individual votes were cast. The winners were given a custom-made metal trophy manufactured by M. Davis & Sons.

Hologic is an innovative medical technology company, founded in 1985, that is focused on improving women’s health and wellbeing through early detection and treatment. In 1999, Hologic established its presence in Delaware via an acquisition of Digital Radiography Corporation, a business originating from DuPont’s Medical Products Diagnostic Imaging Business.

Since that time, the Newark site has been manufacturing mammography imaging detectors as a critical component to their lifesaving devices, utilizing a sophisticated glass-coating process. Recently, Hologic moved all its production lines from Danbury, Connecticut to Newark, Delaware, with the 3Dimensions Mammography System being the first line duplicated. The move will open an additional 120 jobs in Delaware.

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment of every member of our Hologic team. From our talented engineers and designers to our skilled technicians and production staff, each person plays a vital role in our success, and I am proud to represent all of them,” says Brian Brooks, senior director of operations at Hologic. “Winning this award is a reminder that in the world of manufacturing, success is not measured solely by the products we create, but by the impact we have on the lives of others.”

Beyond innovation, Hologic prioritizes community support and collects international data to empower women’s health globally. On average, Hologic’s 3Dimensions Mammography Systems save the lives of around 27,300 women per year. Hologic estimates saving one life for every 250 women screened on their systems.

“I’d like to extend my congratulations to Hologic and their 3Dimensions Mammography system for being voted the first Coolest Thing Made in Delaware. This innovative device not only contributes to the strength of our state’s manufacturing sector, but also empowers women with a vital tool for early detection and better health outcomes,” states DSCC President Mike Quaranta. “Hologic’s commitment to creating lifesaving technologies and supporting Delaware’s workforce makes them truly deserving of this award.”
