We have approached the midpoint of the season for most teams and a few are starting to separate themselves from the “pack”. The Royals of Delmarva Christian remain “hot” as Kaylan Yoder recorded her career-best 20 strikeouts in a 2-0 win over previously unbeaten Appoquinimink in a game broadcast on 302 Sports. First year head coach Rachel Fetterman has the Royals `perched at the top of our week six rankings with a record of 10-0. They are the only undefeated team left in the state. Sussex Central moves into the second spot after a 2-1 win at Middletown Saturday (22nd), while 10-2 Laurel upended St Mark’s 4-2 Saturday. thus handing the Spartans their 1st loss of the season.

Here is the current Top 10 for Delaware Live-302 Sports:

1 – Delmarva Christian (10-0)  visits #3 Caravel the 25th on 302 Sports

2 – Sussex Central (9-1) plays 7-3 Lake on the 25th

3 – Caravel (6-1) Showdown the 25th with #1 Delmarva Christian on 302 Sports.

4 – Appo  (7-1) Only loss is to Delmarva 2-0 / rebounded with 10-0 win over Charter.

5 – St Marks (7-1) Lost Saturday to Laurel 4-2. Faces RLCA and DMA this week,

6 – Milford  (9-1) Won Saturday vs William Penn.

8 – Smyrna  (7-4) Beat DMA 3-0 the 22nd. Hosts Laurel the 25th.

9- Indian River (7-3). Has won 5 of the last 6. Meets #10 Polytech on the 25th.

10- Polytech (4-4) Recent wins vs Middletown and RLCA + 1-run loss to #6 Milford.

Others receiving consideration are Middletown (5-3), Padua (6-3), Lake (7-3) and DMA (4-3), and Cape (5-4).

Great to see Madge Layfield back in the circle on the 20th at Cape. She recorded her 600th career strike out against Nandua (VA) earlier last week. The softball players from Cape Henlopen and Sussex Central gathered for a moment of silence prior to their game Thursday. They were paying tribute to the late Corey Mumford from Laurel. The players all wore red and white ribbons in their hair (the school colors of Laurel).

Our live stream this week will be at #3 Caravel as the Buccaneers face top ranked and undefeated Delmarva Christian. That game is scheduled for a 6PM first pitch. Softball action provided by Delaware Live – powered by 302 Sports.
