Delaware Tech student-athletes must excel on and off the field as representatives of the College. Throughout the season on the Delaware Tech Athletics Instagram account, one student-athlete is regularly honored for their overall athletic performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, and commitment to education.

Here are Athlete Spotlight students this month:

Zach Hart
Zach Hart is a second-year member of the baseball team, a turf and ornamental horticulture major, and a graduate of St. Georges Technical High School. Hart has been a dominant pitcher for Delaware Tech in two seasons, recording a regular-season record of 16-1. This season he finished with a 3.71 ERA and 77 strikeouts, and was named National Junior College Athletic Association Region 19 Pitcher of the Year. “Zach has been the ace of our pitching staff since he stepped foot on campus,” Head Coach Stu Madden said. “He wants the ball in big games, is as consistent as can be, and continues to get better. He has only lost 1 game since his sophomore year of high school. As a program, we would not be in the position we’ve been in the past two seasons without his pitching and the flat-out dominance he has shown at times.”

Megan Sterling
Megan Sterling is a sophomore member of the softball team, a criminal justice major, and a graduate of Sussex Technical High School. After playing her first collegiate year elsewhere, Sterling joined Delaware Tech in 2023 and was immediately an integral part of the team. A starting outfielder, Sterling had one of the team’s best batting averages at .476 with 49 hits, 38 RBI, and 6 home runs. “Megan has brought to the team a positive attitude and hard work ethic on and off the field,” Head Coach Guy Wilkins said. “She has been steady all year in the outfield and at the plate. I tried recruiting her out of high school and she is someone that I would have loved to have coached for two years.”

Will Turner
Will Turner is a second-year member of the baseball team, an agribusiness management major, and a graduate of Colonel Richardson High School. As a starting outfielder, Turner had a tremendous second season for Delaware Tech, recording 62 hits with 49 RBI, 5 home runs, and a batting average of .366. He has also been an outstanding student, receiving the Highest Team GPA Award in 2022. “Will has been a steady part of the middle of our order throughout this season,” Head Coach Stu Madden said. “He has worked extremely hard to put himself in the position he is in. Will pushes teammates to get better and work hard, especially in the weight room. He has made huge improvements as an outfielder, and has added little things to his offensive game that have really made a difference.”

Carly Collins
Carly Collins is a second-year member of the softball team, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education major, and a graduate of Sussex Central High School. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Collins had a third year of eligibility and made the most of it as Delaware Tech’s starting pitcher. As of May 22, Collins pitched 107 innings, recorded a 14-2 record with 94 strikeouts and a 2.36 ERA. For her career, she is one of just three pitchers to reach 25 or more career wins in the past 10 seasons. “Carly has been a vital part of our team,” Head Coach Guy Wilkins said. “Each year she has grown as a pitcher and has really come into her own. I’m very proud of her and of all of her accomplishments.”
