A new sign on the building brings Michael’s closer to opening in Milford

With a sign going up on the outside of their new location, the Milford Michael’s store came closer to opening last week. According to Rebecca Talley, External Communications Specialist, the craft company is looking forward to opening the doors to the new store.

“I’m happy to tell you about our forthcoming store in Milford,” Talley said. “We expect to open late November or early December 2023. We plan to hold a soft open and then will host a grand opening event for the community, which will be a lot of fun and include product demos, free crafts and giveaways.”

Michael’s which will open at 650 North Dupont Boulevard, next to Harbor Freight, features arts and craft supplies. The Milford store is a smaller format than other stores in the area.

“We are always looking to bring Michael’s and the joy of creativity to more communities and found that Milford was a great fit for a new, smaller format store,” Rachel Peterson, Head of Corporate and Product Communications, said when the company announced the opening of the Milford location. “The new store will be a sleeker, simpler Michael’s featuring self-checkout registers, a Michael’s Custom Framing Center and a curated assortment of our seasonal décor and the most popular supplies and componentry across arts, crafts, framing, floral, kids crafts, DIY, yarn, beading and scrapbooking products to inspire creativity in the surrounding area.”

Michael’s was founded in 1973 by Michael J. Dupey, a Dallas businessman, who renovated a failing department store. Dupey created a department store featuring craft supplies, operating the company under Dupey Enterprises, a company owned by Dupey’s father, Jim. The company grew into a chain which continued to be controlled by Dupey Enterprises for ten years before it was sold to Sam Wyly. Today, the company features over 1,200 stores throughout the United States and Canada.

“We will be hiring for dozens of temporary, full- and part-time roles over the course of the year,” Talley said.
