Members of the Milford Garden Club sprucing up the gardens at Delaware Veterans’ Home

With the change of seasons, the Milford Garden Club has a very special project: updating the gardens and planters at the entrance to the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford. Each spring and fall members gather at the veterans home and this year was no exception.

Work began with digging up old perennials from the entrance garden and removing dead plants from the various planter containers. When club members encountered dry, clay soil, they were reminded how important it is to water any flower bed a week before starting work to make the soil easier to handle.

New plantings included beautiful red canna lilies, dozens of daffodil bulbs, violas, pansies, cabbage and kale in the entrance garden and in the containers that dot the porch of the Veteran’s Home for the residents to enjoy.

The club also spruced up the gardens surrounding the Blue Star Memorial Marker placed there by the club on May 23, 2023 and dedicated to honor veterans past, present and future.

On a different note, the Milford Garden Club added seasonal greenery to the four porch pots located at the entrance to the Milford Chamber of Commerce on NW Front Street in Milford. The pots have been empty for several years and the garden club anticipates adding permanent plantings in the spring.
