The Milford Buccaneers had plenty of sports action this week between both basketball and wrestling teams. With winter seasons starting to come to a close, here’s a quick recap of what happened in Milford winter sports between February 2 and February 8, 2026.
Girls Basketball
The girls basketball team had a strong week winning two of their three games last week. The week got off to a bumpy start in their game against Sussex Central losing that game at home last Tuesday. Things improved last Thursday against Lake Forest. The Buccaneers scored 34 points defeating the Spartans by seven points earning their first victory of the season. Milford followed that performance with a season high 56 points against Red Lion winning back-to-back games for the first time this season. It was Milford’s first double-digit victory of the season. The Buccaneers will play two games this week starting with a tough matchup against Cape Henlopen followed by a home game against Sussex Tech on Thursday.
Boys Basketball
The boys basketball team struggled last week losing all three of their matchups. The Buccaneers first two losses of the week came against Sussex Central and Lake Forest in extremely close games losing both by a combined four points. The Golden Knights had three players score ten points in their win last Tuesday, using a 14-point second quarter to create the small advantage they eventually won by. The Spartans and Buccaneers battled until the final minute, with Lake Forest earning a two-point victory, last Thursday. Junior Kaisan Bacon led the Buccaneers with 14 points in their loss to Smyrna at the end of last week, bringing the two teams into a tie for the fourth spot in the Henlopen North conference. Milford has two games scheduled for this week starting with a home game against Cape Henlopen on Tuesday followed by a road game against Sussex Tech on Thursday.
Boys Wrestling
The boys wrestling team competed in two dual matches last week in addition to the Cavalier Duals event last Saturday. The Buccaneers lost their first dual of the week against Sussex Tech, but bounced back with a victory against Sussex Central last Wednesday. Milford scored six wins by fall in the match. Milford came away as the Cavalier Duals best team winning all five of their duals beating Polytech, Caravel, John Dickinson, Middletown and Red Lion at the event. Milford finished the regular season 14-4.
Girls Wrestling
The girls wrestling team had a good week on the mat as well, winning their one dual meet before wrestling at the Lady Hawk Dual Meet Tournament last Saturday. Milford defeated Sussex Tech last Monday, 28-6. At the tournament meet, the Buccaneers faced a plethora of opponents only losing one of their matches. The team’s biggest win in the tournament was a 59-18 victory over Hodgson. Milford finished the regular season with a 8-1 record.
