Save the Date: Milford Invites Residents to Pitch In for 6th Annual Community Clean-Up Day
MILFORD, Del. — As spring returns to Delaware, Milford leaders are encouraging residents to mark their calendars and get ready to lend a hand in one of the city’s most visible acts of community pride.
Milford’s 6th Annual Community Clean-Up Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, from 8 to 10:30 a.m., when volunteers will fan out across parks, streets and neighborhoods to collect litter and help beautify public spaces throughout the city.
Organizers say the volunteer-powered event has become a popular spring tradition in Milford, bringing together families, civic groups, businesses and local leaders for a few hours of hands-on service. The goal is simple: prepare the community for the busy spring and summer season while strengthening the sense of shared responsibility for Milford’s public spaces.
“This event is one of those special moments where the whole community comes together,” said Sadé Truiett, coordinator for Downtown Milford Inc. “From families and youth groups to local businesses and civic organizations, everyone can play a role in helping keep Milford beautiful. It’s a great way to welcome spring and show pride in our city.”
A Morning of Community Service
Volunteers will typically gather at a central check-in location — often Bicentennial Park — before being assigned to cleanup areas around the city. Teams work along parks, streets, trails and other public spaces to remove litter, clear light debris and support Public Works crews already active during the city’s spring cleanup season.
The effort helps reduce litter before outdoor events and tourism activity pick up later in the year, while also improving local parks and neighborhoods.
Volunteers of All Ages Welcome
The clean-up day is designed to be accessible and welcoming to the entire community. Organizers encourage participation from:
-
Families and individual residents
-
School clubs and youth groups
-
Scouts and sports teams
-
Local businesses and employee teams
-
Civic organizations and nonprofits
-
Retirees and community volunteers
Children are welcome to participate but must be accompanied by an adult.
To help recognize the volunteers who make the event possible, the first 200 registered participants will receive a free event T-shirt.
How to Sign Up
Volunteers must register individually through the City of Milford’s online registration form, which collects basic information including name, contact information and T-shirt size. Participants can also list a group name if they are volunteering as part of a team.
Registration closes April 15.
A Growing Milford Tradition
Now entering its sixth year, Community Clean-Up Day has become a regular fixture on Milford’s civic calendar — reflecting the city’s strong culture of volunteerism and local pride.
Each year, hundreds of residents come together for the short but meaningful effort, proving that a few hours of teamwork can make a noticeable difference across the community.
For more information about participating or supporting the event, residents can contact Sadé Truiett, coordinator for Downtown Milford Inc., at 302-393-6808.
With spring just around the corner, organizers say now is the perfect time for residents to save the date, sign up, and get ready to help Milford shine.
