Four years ago, Tom Payton came to his friend, Josh Muncy, with an idea. At the time, Payton was working in management for a restoration company out of Wilmington and saw a need for a similar service in the Milford area. A few months later, the two decided to start The Restoration Guys to offer that service.

“We started in the fall of 2017 and we have not looked back,” Muncy said. ‘We have been on a constant growth trajectory ever since. We pride ourselves on being an equal opportunity employer. We are an employee-centric company and love providing opportunities for people in and around our community.”

Both Payton and Muncy hold multiple certifications from the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), including Water Mitigation, Applied Structural Drying, Applied Microbial Remediation Technician, Trauma and Crime Scene Technician, Fire and Smoke Restoration Technician, Odor Control Technician and Contents Processing Technician. The two are also OSHA safety certified.

“We specialize in residential and commercial restoration,” Muncy said. “Everything from water, wind, mold, fire, odor, trauma and storm clean up. We are also certified to handle COVID-19 sanitation services for commercial or residential properties. We are a full-service contractor. Unlike many in our industry, we can assist our clients through the entire process, from the initial loss through the complete restoration of their home or business. This is the reason our clients value our services. We are their advocate and are there to help until they are made whole again.”

Muncy explained that the company is also proficient in working with and handling all parts of the insurance process for our clients as well. The staff has a great relationship with insurance agents, adjusters and companies, using the same estimating program insurance companies use or require. In addition to offering restoration services, The Restoration guys are also full-service general contractors. They offer all types of remodeling, from a bathroom or kitchen all the way through major complete home makeovers as well as custom home construction.

“The best part of what we do is helping people,” Muncy said. “We are often called when someone has just experienced a traumatic and sometimes life-changing event. Being able to help that person or family and put their home back together is something we all take pride in. That’s why our company slogan is “restoring lives one home at a time.” Often, however, the thing that makes this job so rewarding is also the most challenging. When someone’s home has been torn apart, they want it back to normal as soon as possible. Their lives have been flipped upside down. Trying to be realistic with the clients and getting them through some of the processes with insurance claims can be incredibly challenging. Empathy is a must in our line of work.”

Muncy is married to his wife, Kaila, who owns Ashtanga Yoga 302 in Milford while Payton’s wife, Tanja, is a State Farm agent and personal trainer. The Payton’s have one son and two granddaughters. Both Payton and Muncy are from Milford originally although Payton now lives in Lewes. Muncy holds a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science from Wilmington University and Tom holds a degree in theology from Beeson as well as multiple certifications in business processes and management. The two have over 40 years combined experience in the restoration and construction industry.

The company is located at 109 McCoy Street in Milford and normal business hours are 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM. The Restoration Guys offer 24/7 services for emergencies as well.
