A 66-year-old Newark man is celebrating a $25,000 prize after matching all five numbers in the PLAY 5 Night Draw.
The winning ticket was purchased at BP on University Plaza in Newark and later redeemed at Delaware Lottery headquarters on March 19.
The March 18 drawing produced the winning numbers 3, 2, 5, 5 and 9.
A retired Delaware native, the man said he has been playing lottery games since 1980 and typically buys just one ticket at a time. He selects his own numbers using birthdates that are meaningful to him and plays primarily for entertainment.
He discovered the win by checking the results on his phone and said he was shocked upon realizing he had matched all five numbers. He plans to use the prize money to pay off credit cards and improve his financial stability.
“It’s always special to see a longtime player win, especially when they play using numbers that hold personal meaning,” said Helene Keeley, Director of the Delaware Lottery. “We’re happy this prize will help bring added comfort, and we remind all players to enjoy Lottery games responsibly.”
PLAY 5 is a daily draw game with drawings held twice each day, offering players the chance to win up to $50,000 per play depending on the wager and play type.
