New Penny Square restaurant adds homestyle dishes and locally sourced ingredients to downtown dining scene

MILFORD — A new restaurant built around American cuisine, family recipes and handcrafted cocktails has opened in downtown Milford.

Sip and Simmer, at 39 N. Walnut St. in Penny Square, celebrated its grand opening Saturday, June 6, with a ribbon cutting attended by local officials, downtown leaders, family and friends.

The restaurant is owned by Ashley Savage, David Smith, Kelly Morris and Niki Morris, who say they want Sip and Simmer to bring a blend of homestyle meals, family-inspired dishes and fresh, locally sourced ingredients to Milford’s growing downtown business district.

The menu leans into comfort food with a personal touch.  Chef and co-owner David Smith’s favorite dish to prepare is “Poppa Smitty’s Short Rib,” made with homemade barbecue sauce from a recipe inspired by his late father. Other menu staples include “Uncle Joe’s Chicken Pot Pie” and “Creamy Alfredo Pasta.”

The restaurant’s opening adds another dining option to downtown Milford, where restaurants, shops and small businesses continue to help draw residents and visitors into the city’s commercial core.

Mayor Todd Culotta, members of Downtown Milford Inc. and other community members attended the ribbon cutting to welcome the business.

Sip and Simmer is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.
