Auditions are planned for an upcoming production of “The Sound of Music” at the Riverfront Theater

Second Street Players is excited to announce auditions for their 2024 holiday production, “The Sound of Music.”

Directors Steven Haber and Melissa Brenner will hold open auditions for this beloved musical on Monday, July 22 and Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at the Riverfront Theater, 2 S Walnut St, Milford. The show is performed by a large cast of performers from age 6 and up in a variety of roles. Cast breakdown and additional information may be found on the SSP website, www.secondstreetplayers.com.

Auditioners should be prepared to move and have an appropriate song prepared to sing either a cappella or with self-provided audio accompaniment (theater sound system will not be available). Please arrive on time as the directors will be auditioning people in groups.

Featuring such cherished songs as “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, “The Sound of Music” won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tonys, five Oscars and two Golden Globes. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.

Performance dates will be Fridays through Sundays, November 29 through December 8, 2024, with a possible third weekend. Those auditioning must be available for all performances as well as the two weeks prior to opening night.

Questions may be sent to the directors Steven Haber or Melissa Brenner at [email protected] or [email protected].

Please check the SSP website at www.secondstreetplayers.com for more information on casting opportunities.

The Sound of Music, from the book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, is presented through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals (www.concordtheatricals.com) on behalf of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization.
