Delaware State Police arrested 23-year-old Damien Swift of Dover, Delaware, for burglary yesterday morning.
On December 4, 2023, at approximately 2:35 a.m., troopers responded to Valero, located at 1491 S. Governors Avenue in Dover, Delaware, for a burglary alarm. When troopers arrived, they found shattered glass from the front door. A review of the video surveillance showed that a white male, wearing gray sweatpants, black sneakers, and a blue & white flannel shirt with a gray hood, had broken the glass on the front door of Valero. He then used his hand to create an opening to unlock the door and enter the store. Once inside, the suspect stole multiple cans of chewing tobacco before fleeing the scene. The suspect was later identified as Damien Swift, and he was found at a nearby hospital, wearing the same clothing observed in the video surveillance. He was taken into custody after receiving medical treatment for the injuries to his hand and transported to Troop 3, where he was charged with the following crimes:
- Burglary Third (Felony)
- Theft Under $1500
- Criminal Mischief
Swift was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and released on his own recognizance.
