The Delaware State Police arrested a 16-year-old male, of Wilmington, Delaware, found with a stolen vehicle early Monday morning in New Castle.
On September 11, 2023, at approximately 12:31 a.m., a trooper observed a black Ford Fusion with an expired temporary registration tag stopped at a red light in the right lane of Pulaski Highway eastbound, south of S. Dupont Highway in New Castle. A computer inquiry confirmed the temporary registration was expired and revealed the vehicle was reported stolen within the jurisdiction of Wilmington Police Department in July 2023. The trooper initiated a traffic stop after it observed an additional traffic violation as the Ford was traveling on S. Dupont Highway. The suspect disregarded the police officer signal and fled southbound on S. Dupont Highway at a high rate of speed. During the ensuing vehicle pursuit, the suspect continued driving in a reckless manner, and ultimately lost control and crashed into a concrete median in the area of Pulaski Highway and School Bell Road. The suspect fled on foot into a field, where the 16-year-old male was eventually taken into custody without incident.
The suspect was taken to Troop 2 and charged with the following crimes:
16-year-old male:
- Receiving Stolen Property (Felony)
- Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony)
- Reckless Driving
- Driving Without a Valid License
- Expired Temporary Registration
- Leaving the Scene of a Property Collision
- Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession
- Driving Vehicle at Unreasonable Speed
- Failure to Have Lights on When Required
- Failure to Use Turn Signal
The juvenile was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released to a parent on a $5,001 unsecured bond.
