The dog days of summer are upon us with August looming right around the corner, a month that is often filled with hot, humid days. For families looking for a way to stay cool, Killen’s Pond State Park has the perfect solution – a visit to their waterpark.
Killen’s Pond water park has two speed slides standing 54 feet in the air as well as two spiral tunnels that will entice the older children and adults. The Main Pool at the water park features a mushroom fountain, floating lily pad fun walk and underwater benches for seating. It is also offers a zero-depth entrance to make entering and exiting the pool easier.
For those with very small children, the Baby Pool has underwater bubblers, two frog slides and two shooting ground fountains while the Tot Lot has a climbing platform, tunnel slide, water curtain, pipe waterfall, rope pull fountains and a spray fountain.
Admission to the waterpark for those under 48” is $8 per person and for 48” or over admission is $10 on weekdays. On weekends, under 48” is $10 and over 48” is $12 per person. Coupon books are available for $80 for a book of 10 and group rates are also available online for 20 or more guests at $8 per person. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult who must remain in the water park with them.
There are some rules for the park, however, only clothing sold as swimwear may be worn in the pools. Thong bathing suits or clothing made of cotton, denim or similar material is not permitted. There are lockers available, but visitors must bring their own lock as the park is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Children must be 48” or taller to ride the slides and there are no exceptions to that rule.
Jewelry, including wedding bands, watches, hats, sunglasses, heavily beaded hair, zippers, buckles, rivets or other items made of metal are not permitted on the slides as a safety measure for the rider. Diving and running are not permitted around the pool. Children who are not toilet-trained must wear rubber pants or swim diapers which may be purchased at the swim shop. Food and drink are not permitted inside the water park. There are picnic areas just outside the fence, but alcohol is not permitted in the vicinity of the waterpark. No coolers or outside drinks can be brought inside the fence.
Each guest is given a wristband and once it is on, they may enter or exit the pool area as often as they wish. Because the waterpark is family oriented, profanity and vulgar language is not permitted.
The water park also has protections related to weather. When thunder is heard or lightening is seen, all patrons must leave the water park which will reopen 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder is heard or one hour after the last flash of lightening. If it rains, thunders or lightening’s for one hour, the pool will close. If it is raining hard enough lifeguards cannot see the bottom of the pool, guests will be asked to leave. The pool will also not open if the air temperature is under 70 degrees. Closures will be announced on the park’s social media.
Killen’s Pond waterpark is located at 5025 Killen’s Pond Road in Felton. The park is open Memorial Day through Labor Day with two sessions each day. The first session is 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM with swim ending at 1:15 PM. The second session is 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM with swim ending at 5:45 PM. Tickets can be purchased for both sessions or just one.
