Even though summer unofficially started with the Memorial Day weekend, the Milford Public Library is not slowing down during the month of June. Several interesting programs are planned for the library this month. In addition, the Summer Reading Program kicked off on July 1.

“We will kick off the month with “Talking Trash,” a program with Delaware State Solid Waste Authority on June 6,” Caroline Tabor, Program Coordinator, said. “The program is in the Lion’s Room A and runs from 1 to 2 PM. You can learn what happens to your trash and recycling as well as tips for what goes in trash and what you should be recycling.”

On Saturday, June 8, the Friends of the Library will hold a Yard Sale from 9 AM until 1 PM under the portico. The same day, the American History Series with the Milford Museum will feature Tamara Burks who will talk about Rosedale Beach. The beach was a popular destination for people of color and featured many well-known artists, like Louis Armstrong, James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder, performing there. The program runs from 1 to 2 PM.

“We will celebrate Flag Day, June 14, with the Bill Willis Memorial Flag Program at 6 PM,” Tabor said. “This program honors patriot ancestors who served or assisted the colonies during the American Revolution. The program will provide information on promoting true patriotism and preserving the core values of the American democracy enshrined in the United States Constitution. It will be an inspiration to youth and future generations as well.”

On June 12 from 10 AM to Noon, the monthly Coffee Klatch program is planned where you can learn more about local senior services. For those who love collecting sea glass, “Making Seaglass Necklace and Earrings with Donna,” is the perfect program. It will be held June 15 at 11 AM and there is no fee although registration is required. If unable to attend, the library does request that anyone who has registered cancel in advance, so they have an accurate count. Then, on June 22, the DelMarVa Pigeon Club will hold an exhibition under the portico at noon.

“The DelMarVa Pigeon Club has been promoting the pigeon hobby since 1980,” Tabor said. “This will not only be an exhibition, but also an educational talk about these interesting birds.”

Yoga classes are planned at the library with Full Gentle Yin Yoga on June 21, June 28, July 19 and July 26 from 10 am to 11 AM in the Smith Room. Please bring your own yoga mat and water. Those that practice with straps or blocks should bring them as well. There are a few extra blocks and mats available. Registration is required for each session.

“Marge Huntzinger of the Milford Garden Club will teach you how to grow your own pumpkins on June 27 at 2 PM,” Tabor said. “Although it is summer, it won’t be long before fall and Halloween are right around the corner! You will want to get those pumpkins growing now so they are ready!”

Milford Public Library now has a telehealth navigator. Appointments are necessary and they are at the library Monday from 10 AM to 3 PM, Tuesday from 11 AM to 4 PM and Thursday from 10 AM to 3 PM.

As a reminder the Milford Public Library will be closed on June 15th in honor of Juneteenth. The library is open Monday through Thursday from 10 AM to 7 PM; Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM.
