Teachers and students to take over Milford streets for First Friday celebration; Everyone is invited!

Amillion The Poet will deliver a special performance during the downtown street party

MILFORD — Teachers and students will be the stars of a communitywide celebration on the streets of downtown Milford during September’s First Friday.

The Teachers and Students Street Party will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, along Walnut Street. The free event will bring educators, students, families and other community members together to celebrate the beginning of a new school year.

The family-friendly evening will feature live entertainment, food trucks, local vendors, activities and opportunities to shop and dine at downtown businesses.

Delaware recording artist and motivational speaker Amillion The Poet will deliver a special performance during the celebration.

Amillion The Poet, whose full name is Amillion Mayfield, blends hip-hop and spoken-word poetry with messages of purpose, perseverance, faith and personal responsibility. The longtime Delaware resident has performed internationally and appeared at the Firefly Music Festival.

He also has worked with young people through mentoring programs, school presentations and empowerment workshops, making his appearance a fitting addition to an event designed to support teachers and inspire students.

The celebration is part of Downtown Milford Inc.’s First Friday series, which transforms the downtown district into a gathering place for residents and visitors. Local shops and restaurants will remain open during the event.

The September First Friday is sponsored by Fulton Bank, Sussex County Health Coalition and Highmark Health Options.
