Traffic Stop Leads to Firearm Arrest

Delaware State Police have arrested 29-year-old Philip Adams of Smyrna, Delaware for firearms offenses following a traffic stop that occurred yesterday afternoon in the Camden area.

On December 4, 2022, at approximately 12:48 p.m., a trooper on patrol observed a 2005 blue Ford Explorer traveling southbound on South Dupont Highway in the area of West Lebanon Road. The trooper conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle after a computer check showed that the registration had expired. The trooper contacted the driver and sole occupant, identified as Philip Adams, and detected an odor of marijuana. The Explorer was searched at the scene, which led to the discovery of a concealed 9-millimeter handgun, a large fixed-blade knife, approximately .6 grams of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Adams was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 3, where he was charged with the following offenses:

  • Carrying a Concealed Firearm (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Numerous traffic offenses

Adams was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 7 and released on $4,250 unsecured bond.
