Troopers Arrest Man During Burglary-in-Progress

The Delaware State Police have arrested 51-year-old Norris Macklin of Seaford, Delaware for burglarizing an abandoned Newark area hotel yesterday morning.

On May 3, 2023, at approximately 11:33 a.m., a trooper on patrol observed a subject carrying bolt cutters in the parking lot within the fenced-off property of the Country Inn and Suites located at 1024 Old Churchmans Road, Newark. The hotel is currently closed with a fence bordering the property and multiple signs to keep off the property. The trooper made contact with the subject identified as Norris Macklin and observed signs of forced entry into the building. Additionally, the trooper observed piles of wire, cutting tools, and drug paraphernalia in Franklin’s vehicle which was located in the parking garage.

Macklin was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 6 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Burglary Third Degree (Felony)
  • Possession of Burglar Tools (Felony)
  • Theft Under $1,500
  • Criminal Trespass Second Degree
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Macklin was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court #2 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $5,000 secured bond.
