The Delaware State Police arrested 37-year-old Matthew Slentz of Ocean City, Maryland, for aggravated menacing and weapons offenses after he caused a disturbance at The Starboard in Dewey Beach Saturday night.
On September 9, 2023, at approximately 10:02 p.m., troopers responded to The Starboard at 2009 Coastal Highway in Dewey Beach for a report of a disorderly subject. A trooper at the scene attempted to assist Starboard employees with removing the disorderly subject from the premises, however, he refused to comply. The subject, identified as Matthew Slentz, brandished a concealed razorblade from his hooded shirt and lunged at the trooper. Slentz continued to refuse verbal commands to comply and was subsequently taken into custody after being tased.
A search of Slentz led to the recovery of the razorblade, and a concealed spring-loaded switchblade knife. Neither the trooper nor The Starboard patrons were injured.
Slentz was taken to Troop 7, where he was charged with the following crimes:
- Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
- Aggravated Menacing (Felony)
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony) – 2 counts
- Disorderly Conduct
Slentz was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $22,050 secured bond.
