Troopers Arrest Man for Assault First Degree Following Shooting

Delaware State Police arrested 18-year-old Axl Vangorder of Townsend, DE for assault first-degree and related charges following a shooting incident.

On January 14, 2023, at approximately 7:35 p.m., troopers responded to the 600 block of Cannery Lane, Townsend, for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, troopers learned Vangorder engaged in a verbal argument with a 28-year-old male acquaintance at the residence. During the argument, Vangorder shot the victim once in the upper torso. The victim was transported to an area hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Vangorder was taken into custody at the scene without incident. Troopers recovered the 9mm handgun used in the incident at the residence.

Vangorder was transported to Troop 2, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Assault First Degree (Felony)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited (Felony)

Vangorder was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $60,000 cash bond.
