Delaware State Police have arrested 19-year-old Mekhi Woodard of Wilmington, Delaware, for the burglary of a Claymont area auto shop that occurred early this morning.
On October 19, 2023, at approximately 1:40 a.m., troopers responded to the Meineke located at 3005 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, for a report of a burglary. During the investigation, troopers discovered an unknown suspect unlawfully entered the closed auto shop and stole an undisclosed amount of cash from a cash register before he fled on foot in an unknown direction. Responding troopers searched the area, and located a man at a nearby Wawa who matched the description of the suspect observed on Meineke’s surveillance footage. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Troop 1, where he repeatedly provided a false identity to troopers. A computer inquiry of the suspect’s fingerprints was conducted, and the suspect was positively identified as Mekhi Woodard.
Woodard was charged with the following crimes at Troop 1:
- Burglary Second Degree (Felony)
- Forgery Second Degree (Felony)
- Theft under $1500
- Criminal Impersonation
- Breach of Release
Woodard was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $5,000 cash bond.
