The Delaware State Police arrested 59-year-old John Scott, of Dover, Delaware, for assault following a road rage stabbing that occurred yesterday morning in Dover that left one man injured.

On September 7, 2023, at approximately 10:19 a.m., troopers responded to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus, located at 640 S. State Street, Dover, for a 29-year-old man injured in a stabbing incident. The investigation revealed a white Lexus SUV, operated by the victim, and a blue Mustang, operated by an unknown suspect, were traveling southbound on Route 1, north of the Dover Air Force Base. The suspect was driving in an aggressive manner and gestured for the victim to pull over. The victim complied and the two subjects proceeded to argue on the shoulder of Route 1. During the argument, the suspect lunged at the victim with a knife and stabbed him in the torso. The victim drove himself to the hospital and the suspect fled the scene.

With the assistance of the Dover Police Department, a tag for the suspect’s vehicle was obtained. Troopers located the Mustang and its owner, identified as John Scott, at the vehicle’s registered address on the 1000 block of South Little Creek Road, in Dover. Troopers observed blood on the Mustang’s driver-side window and injuries to Scott’s hands. He was taken into custody without incident. A search warrant was executed on the Mustang and a bloody knife was recovered.

Scott was taken to Troop 3, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Assault First Degree (Felony)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)

Scott was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $120,000 cash bond.
