Troopers Arrest Store Employee for Felony Theft

On Wednesday the Delaware State Police arrested 27-year-old Derrick Whitehead of Townsend, Delaware for felony internal theft after it was discovered that he was stealing money from his employer.

On February 22, 2023, at approximately 6:37 p.m., a trooper responded to the ShopRite grocery store located at 1101 Governors Place in Bear regarding an internal theft. The trooper was informed that one of the store’s loss prevention associates had been stealing money that had been collected from the cash registers. The investigation revealed that the employee, identified as Derrick Whitehead, had stolen over $5,000 from ShopRite throughout the month of February 2023.

Troopers contacted Whitehead at the store and took him into custody without incident. Whitehead was taken to Troop 2 and charged with one count of felony Theft. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $2,000 unsecured bond.
