Two Juveniles Arrested After Pursuit in Stolen Vehicle and Crashing into a State Police Tahoe

Delaware State Police arrested two 16-year-old juvenile males of Wilmington, DE after leading troopers on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle and crashing into a state police vehicle early Saturday morning.

On April 15, 2023, at approximately 12:09 a.m., troopers assisted the Newport Police Department who were chasing a stolen vehicle in the area of Bear Christiana Road and Rivers End Drive. Newport officers initially located a vehicle reported stolen by the New Castle County Police Department on April 10, 2023, on Maryland Ave. The pursuit ensued to the area of North Red Lion Road, which ends in a cul-de-sac. Once in the dead-end, the suspect vehicle reversed and rammed the front of a state police Tahoe. The suspect vehicle fled again while being pursued to the 1500 block of Ridge Road, Wilmington.  The two suspects exited the vehicle and ran on foot. Troopers established a perimeter and located the suspects hiding in the brush behind a residence on Ridge Road.

The trooper was not injured as a result of the collision.

The juveniles were taken into custody and transported to Troop 2 where they were charged with the following crimes:

16-year-old operator

  • Reckless Endangering First Degree (Felony)
  • Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony)
  • Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,500 (Felony)
  • Conspiracy Second Degree (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Numerous Traffic Violations

The 16-year-old operator was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on a $9,900 cash bond.

16-year-old passenger

  • Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,500 (Felony)
  • Conspiracy Second Degree (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest

The 16-year-old passenger was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on a $2,500 secured bond.

The operator also was charged by Newport PD for additional charges related to the pursuit.
