MSD will off “Helping Others with Language Acquisition” HOLA to Spanish immersion students

During the summer months, students in the Spanish immersion program have an opportunity to strengthen their Spanish language skills through Helping Others with Language Acquisition (HOLA), a summer session offered by Milford School District. The session will be held July 8 through 11 and July 15 through 18.

“This session is designed to help these students strengthen their skills through reading, writing, listening and speaking,” Trish Gerken, Public Information Officer said. “Students will spend two weeks exploring the Spanish language and culture with their teachers and peers.”

Registration for the program can be completed on the district website.

In addition to the HOLA program, the district has partnered with the Milford Public Library in order to further strengthen the skills of the students in the Spanish immersion program. Throughout the summer, students can spend one day each month exploring Spanish language and culture with teachers and peers at the library. Registration for this program is required and can be completed on the district website.

“This added bonus for our Spanish immersion students will be held 9:30 to 10:30 AM,” Gerken said. “Transportation is not provided, however, so parents can either drop their child off or stay with them as they develop a deeper understanding of the Spanish culture and language.”

Grades K-1 can participate in this program June 24, July 22 and August 12. Grades 2-3 will have age-appropriate books for their grade level June 25, July 23 and August 13. For grades 4-5, the program is available June 26, July 24 and August 1.
